NISMO Nurburgring fast facts
- Renowned as one of the toughest endurance races in the world, the Nürburgring 24-Hour last year featured more than 150 entries doing battle over the gruelling 25.378 km (15.769 miles) combined Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuits.
- The Nürburgring 24-Hour is one of several key ‘around the clock’ races for Nissan and NISMO in 2016. Nissan powered the Rolex 24 at Daytona pole position winning entry from SMP Racing; 19 Nissan engines dominate the entry list as the brand looks to continue its domination at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LM P2 class and the Spa-Francorchamps 24-Hour again forms part of the Blancpain Endurance Series where Nissan GT Academy Team RJN will again field two Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 entries.
- Nissan enjoyed the highest ever GT3-spec finish by an Asian manufacturer last year when the German ace teamed with Blancpain Endurance Series champion Alex Buncombe, former GT Academy winner Lucas Ordóñez and Japanese star Kazuki Hoshino to take ninth place.
- Nissan will be further represented by Schulze Motorsport who will return to the Nordschleife with the Nissan GT-R in the SP8T class – aiming to be the fastest non-GT3 car.
- Zakspeed Team boss Peter Zakowski first won the event as driver in 1997 and was on the driving squad in all three wins for his Zakspeed team in 1999, 2001 and 2002. Founded in 1968, Zakspeed has enjoyed a long history in international motorsport including a stint in Formula 1 from 1985 to 1989.
